وقتی خواهران میرابال در ۲۵نوامبر ۱۹۶۰ به دست حکومت دیکتاتوری دومینیکن به قتل رسیدند، نامشان به «نمادی از مبارزات مردمی و فمینیستی» تبدیل شد. وقتی ژینا امینی در ۱۶سپتامبر ۲۰۲۲ به دست پلیس ارشاد و حجاب به به قتل رسید، نام او نمادی شد برای خیزش گسترده مبارزات فمینیستی زنان و جامعه کوییر .
